Our story
From a Peniche fishing boat to a Lisbon table
Maré Alta began on a fishing boat in Peniche. Chef Inês Carvalho spent her childhood summers sorting the catch with her grandfather, learning that the best fish needs little more than fire, salt and respect.
In 2019 she brought that lesson to Madragoa, restoring a 1908 ship chandler's shop into a 40-seat dining room lined with hand-painted tiles. Every morning we buy directly from the day boats in Sesimbra and Peniche, then cook over a grill fed with olive wood from the Alentejo.
The menu changes with the tide and the seasons. What stays the same is the welcome: unhurried lunches, long dinners, and a table where you'll feel like a regular from your very first visit.
